Hippocrates was born around 460 BC. e. on the island of Kos in the eastern Aegean Sea in the family of a hereditary doctor - Asklepiad. It was the father who instilled in his son a deep love of medicine and was his first teacher. Later, he studied with the famous philosophers Gorgias and Democritus.

Hippocrates became the first physician who rejected the then widespread theory that the gods send diseases to a person. Thanks to his efforts, medicine was singled out as a separate science. He was sure that ailments appear due to the influence of character, human nutrition, his habits and natural factors.

Since Hippocrates was a representative of the Kos School of Physicians, he tried to establish the root cause of all pathologies. For this purpose, each patient was established constant monitoring. Doctors created a special regime in their hospitals, which was supposed to contribute to self-healing. It is assumed that during the time of Hippocrates the most important principle of the great doctor appeared - "Do no harm." Hippocrates considered pathology as a progressing phenomenon, the main stage of which is the so-called crisis: a person either dies or is recovering.

The main achievement of Hippocrates is the allocation of human temperaments. He believed that behavior directly depends on the level of black bile, blood, mucus and bile in the body. He also coined the term staging in medicine.

It is believed that Hippocrates was simply a brilliant, outstanding surgeon of the Ancient World. He used innovative treatments for fistulas, fractures, wounds, and dislocations. In addition, he is responsible for writing the rules for how a surgeon should behave during surgery. Particular emphasis was placed on lighting, instrument placement, and hand lighting. Thus, the father of medicine for the first time formulated ethical and moral standards for doctors. The doctor, in his opinion, is simply obliged to be hardworking and responsible, to build trust and to keep medical secrets.

Hippocrates devoted his whole life to medicine. Among the places where he treated people, Thessaly, Thrace, Macedonia, as well as the coast of the Sea of ​​Marmara are mentioned. He died in old age in the city of Larisa , in 370 BC.
